Skill Enhancement
The Career Decision Making process and Needs Assessments are used to determine client’s needs and or interest in a Skill Enhancement Intervention. Counsellors will work with clients who meet the programs eligibility requirements as they research their chosen career field. Counsellors determine eligibility for different funding agencies and refer their clients once their eligibility has been confirmed and supporting Labour Market Information and evidence to support their career choice has been provided.
All Skills Development applications and requests for sponsorship are processed by and approved by the Community Coordinator responsible for the Skills Development Employment Benefit program. Clients are encouraged to use partnerships whenever possible re: sponsorship for training.
Clients can also enhance their skills on the job once their eligibility is confirmed and the Employment Counsellor and client have determined the following programs are in keeping with their client’s best interests and the Return to Work Action Plan:
Targeted Wage Subsidy program;
- Is an Employment program of Human Resources and Social Development Canada and is designed to encourage employers to hire individuals whom they would not normally hire if there was no subsidy.
- The objective of the program is to assist unemployed eligible individuals enhance their skills on the job and become more employable.
- Provides employers with financial assistance towards wages of an individual who meets the eligibility requirements.
- Employers interested in this employment program must contact the Community Coordinator responsible for the Targeted Wage Subsidy Program.
- Clients must be referred to this program by an Employment Counsellor once it has been identified as a suitable intervention for the client.
- Client must meet all eligibility requirements.
